Using a wide profile gives the child plenty of space to adjust but also keep the board stable while they learn. The tri fin set up is perfect for beginners and as they progress, you can easily switch to a dual fin or when they are really comfortable, a single fin for more play in the board so they can start learning those 360's.
The Scamp is designed with the youngest rider in mind. The wide profile makes the board very stable and still fast. The thinner core provides exceptional float yet maintains excellent rail sensitivity for the lighter rider. The tri-fin set up provides drive and locks in the face of the wave, but stays free enough to turn.
